fīnēs Mz. —Nwf. z. fīnis 'Enden, Grenzen'

fīnēs m oder f Substantiv, Nominativ/Akkusativ/Vokativ Plural von fīnis

Pronunciation

fīnis

fīn--is lat. wrtl. 'Ende'; 'Grenze'

For the meaning “region”, compare pāgus again from a root meaning “to fix”.

Umstritten. Vielleicht für *fignis, von uig. *dʰeygʷ- „kleben, aufstellen“, woher figō, oder für *fidnis, von uig. *bʰeyd- „spalten“ , woher findō.

Vgl. pāgus „Region“ mit einer Wurzel, die „befestigen“ bedeutet.
