The first alternating current induction motor, perfected by Dr. Tesla prior to the year 1884, in which year he came to America to take up his life work. Although the motor weighed only a little over 20 pounds, it developed 1/4 horsepower at a speed of 1,800 RPM, a performance considered remarkable at the time.
